CKD PREVENTION PROGRAM

IDEATE:

Preventing chronic kidney disease (CKD) is within reach by managing risk factors and providing early treatment. Early detection is crucial for maintaining healthy kidneys, but in rural areas of Africa, access to routine checkups is a challenge. Unfortunately, many individuals are diagnosed with CKD only in its advanced stages, limiting prevention opportunities.  While various screening projects in Africa rely on random testing via medical camps, this method can be costly and inefficient. We

believe in a more targeted and cost-effective approach. Our proposal involves a focused screening project that identifies individuals at risk in rural communities. By screening the family and close relatives of current dialysis patients, who are already connected to clinics, we can achieve early detection and either prevent or delay them from reaching the critical stage of needing dialysis.

COLLABORATE:

Efficient resource utilization is key, and collaboration with laboratories, physicians, and the Department of Health (DOH) is essential. Partnering with a reliable lab ensures actionable test results (BMI, BP, Urinalysis, Creatinine, Random Blood Glucose) and seamless referral to physicians for treatment.  Patient details will be added to the Ministry of Health (MOH) registers, ensuring accurate disease reporting in hospitals. Monthly reporting records from the Department of Health Services (DHS) will further validate the success of our prevention program.

IMPACT:

Commencing our CKD prevention project with those at risk allows us to concentrate efforts and resources effectively. This targeted approach aims to significantly reduce or delay the onset of Chronic Kidney Disease in the community, making a positive impact on public health.
